Ujima Circle

Program Overview

Ujima is a facilitated youth development program that works with small groups of Black youth at the secondary level to create a safe space and community for youth to gain confidence, knowledge, and skills around identity, racial trauma, advocacy, communication, mental health, and relationship development. As the Ujima participants follow through within the program they continue as mentors for younger youth in our other programs.

Ujima means “Collective Work and Responsibility” and is the 3rd principle of Kwanzaa. Learn more about The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa in this article from the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture.
